Does the Qur'an preach death?

I had to read excerpts from the Quran in my hummanities cl. It read that God will not love or accept non-believers but it also said when confronted with non-belivers, you're just supposed to bless them with peace and go about doing whatever you're doing in your own life. But my neighbor was telling me that the Quran preches death to all Christians, and that didn't coincide with what I read. Then again I only read excerpts. Does the Quran say that anyone who follows it has to kill Christians?? I highly doubt it but if anyone can clear it up for me it'd be appreciated.
