How can i get a really good tan without getting burned!?!?!?

I look really good when i'm tan but i'm kinda fair, is there any thing i can do to get a good tan without getting burned!!! No tanning beds. Just when i try to get a tan i usually end up lookin like a skinny tomato. HAHAHA!!! So ummmm thanks!!!
